Alpine protected areas


Dr Guido PLASSMANN

He studied Alpine geography and history, graduating in 1993. In 1998 he gained his Ph.D. at the Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble. Since 1993 he has worked within the framework of the Alpine Convention and since 1995 has been responsible for developing the network of Alpine protected areas in the Les Écrins National Park and for the French Ministry of the Environment. He is director of the government organisation Alpine Network. Since January 2006 he has been involved in creating the Task Force “Protected Areas of the Alps”. Since June 2006 he has been director of the Task Force ALPARC and a member of the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention. He has written works relevant to protected areas, and is a coordinator of research events (1993 – 2007).
